This variable acts as a temporary location, typically for values displayed in Composer windows. Many pop-up menus have an entry Setq *C* to object and choosing that item sets the value of this variable. Occasionally, a menu item sets a slot to the value of this variable. Only your explicit action sets this variable. The initial value of this variable is nil.
