  • Anna-Marie Holmes becomes Artistic Director

    01 July 1998

Anna-Marie Holmes succeeded Bruce Marks as Boston Ballet's Artistic Director in upon Marks' retirement in 1998. Holmes joined Boston Ballet in 1985 when Marks brought her on as Ballet Mistress for the company. She was appointed co-director in 1993. Holmes' close relationship with Natalia Dudinskaya helped facilitate the former Kirov director's work with Boston Ballet, including the staging of the "Glasnost Swan Lake" (with Dudinskaya's husband Konstantin Sergeyev) and the American premiere of The Pirate (Le Corsaire).
