        Alejandro Virelles

        Cuba
        Joined Boston Ballet in January 2013

        Alejandro Virelles trained at the National Ballet School of Cuba. In 2004, he was invited to join National Ballet of Cuba as a company dancer. He was promoted to soloist in 2006 and principal in 2009. Virelles danced as a principal for two seasons until he joined Angel Corella's Barcelona Ballet in 2011.

        Virelles diverse repertoire includes leading roles in George Balanchine's Ballo della Regina, Michel Descombey's Dying Swan, Marius Petipa's Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Le Corsaire and The Sleeping Beauty, Michel Fokine's Les Sylphides, Stanton Welch's Clear, Angel Corella's Suspended in Time, and Christopher Wheeldon's For Four, among others. He joined Boston Ballet in 2013, and since has performed Jiří Kylián's Symphony of Psalms, George Balanchine's Serenade, Coppélia, and Symphony in C.

        Virelles was a gold medalist in the International Competition of La Habana in 2001 and 2004 and has won the silver medal at the International Competition of Varna in 2004.
