The Sydelle Gomberg Dance Library of the Boston Ballet provides enrichment and a sense of community within the ballet and seeks to serve as an educational resource for the Boston Ballet family as well as the public.
Two swans, one black and one white, now adorn the doors. Masks glittering with sequins and ribbons, a ‘proscenium’ special feature display, a handcrafted tiara, and a lace-trimmed fan decorate the cupboards and doors. You can also look at the window display that changes to reflect the season’s offerings or to honor a special event or dancer in the ballet world. Whatever is on display in the library, it’s always fun to look at! The library has been successful in obtaining donations for some new equipment useful to library patrons. Most notable is the combination DVD/VHS player for showing company performance videos and high caliber commercial dance videos. There is a good variety of each that students, staff, parents, volunteers, and dance scholars are welcome to view in the library. Students, staff, parents, and BBVA volunteers have the opportunity to check out two books from our excellent collection of dance books for two weeks. The most important dance magazines (Dance Magazine, Pointe, Dance International) are available to read in the library. Resource lists of internet dance websites, dance-related books, and dance performances on video will be coming soon. Library Hours: Monday 2 pm to 7 pm Tuesday 3 pm to 6 pm Wednesday 2 pm to 7 pm Thursday 3 pm to 6 pm Saturday 10 am to 1 pm For more information on how to volunteer or get involved please contact Gilly Parker at 2balletomanes@gmail.com.
