Boston Ballet made its debut in Helsinki, Finland, presenting sold out performances at the Finnish National Opera House on September 8 and 9, 2012. The tour marked an exciting homecoming for Artistic Director Mikko Nissinen, who was thrilled to bring the Company, with a dramatic, diverse program, to his native country. Boston Ballet Resident Choreographer Jorma Elo also joined the tour. Both natives of Finland, Nissinen and Elo are alumni of the Finnish National Ballet School where they first met and studied together.
The cutting edge program featured Jorma Elo’s Plan to B, Christopher Wheeldon’s Polyphonia, William Forsythe’s The Second Detail, and Helen Pickett’s Tsukiyo. The three performances were met with overwhelming, unprecedented response from audiences and received rave reviews and critical acclaim from the public and the press.
