Jonathan Batista, originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, began his training at The Local School for Dance. In 2008, he was offered a 3-year full tuition scholarship to study under Jane Hackett's directorship at English National Ballet School. During his time in England, he was coached by Ivan Dinev, Cynthia Harvey, Rudolfo Castellanos, Orlando Salgardo, Alexandre Proia, Gary Avis, Michael Coleman and Anya Evans as his private coach and mentor. With English National Ballet School, Batista performed leading roles in Frederick Ashton's Les Partineurs as Blue Boy, created a role in Michael Corder's L'Arlesienne, Jorge Garcia's Majisimo, George Balanchine's Who Cares, and Kenneth MacMillan's Manon (Des Grieux Variation).
Upon his graduation in 2011, Batista moved to Miami to join Edward Vilella's Miami City Ballet where he performed in George Balanchine's The Nutcracker and La Valse; Marius Petipa's Giselle and Coppélia; and the world premiere of Alexei Ratmansky's Symphonic Variations. In 2012, he joined The National Ballet of Canada as an apprentice for one season, where he performed as Cards in Christopher Wheeldon's Alice in Wonderland; Bear, Horse & Waiter in James Kudelka's The Nutcracker; the Soldier in John Neuemier's Nijinsky; Rudolf Nureyev's The Sleeping Beauty and Don Quixote grand pas de deux for The Royal Bank of Canada apprenticeship on tour throughout Canada.
Batista has been a guest artist for the Cia de Ballet do Rio de Janeiro, where he has performed the roles of Hilarion in Giselle; Prince Florimund in The Sleeping Beauty; Conrad's Slave & Birbanto in Le Corsaire; Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake Act II; Solor in La Bayadère; and The Poet in Michel Fokine's Les Sylphides. Batista was awarded 1st place at Danza America 2008 in Cordoba, Argentina for his performance of Don Quixote, and was a finalist at The Prix de Lausanne 2010. In 2013, he won 2nd place at The World Ballet Competition in Orlando, FL.
Batista joined Boston Ballet as a Company Dancer in 2013.
