Joined Boston Ballet in 2013
Kathryn Boren was born in Dallas, Texas and has studied ballet since the age of three. At age six, she began studying at the Ballet Academy of Texas, under the direction of Lisa Slagle and Thomas Nicholson. At age twelve, Boren was chosen as one of four young girls from the state of Texas to perform with American Ballet Theatre in George Balanchine's Mozartiana. She competed in the Youth America Grand Prix from 2004-2007 and received many top honors.
In 2007, she was awarded a full scholarship to the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet Theatre. Boren studied at the JKO School under the direction of Franco De Vita until 2009. She also attended American Ballet Theatre's Summer Intensive from 2004-2009, was a National Training Scholar from 2005-2009, and was named a Bender Foundation Scholar in 2008. In 2007, Boren was awarded the Nadyne Legere Scholarship from the Dallas Dance Council and was JKO's Princess Grace Nominee. She was a YoungArts Honorable Mention Award Winner in 2008.
Boren joined American Ballet Theatre II in 2009. Her repertoire with the company included principal roles in George Balanchine's Allegro Brillante and Jerome Robbins' Interplay. Boren also performed the pas de deux from Swan Lake Act II, Grand Pas Classique, Carnival in Venice, and George Balanchine's Stars and Stripes. In addition to performing pieces by Aszure Barton and Jodie Gates, Boren was featured in Edwaard Liang's Ballo Per Sei. She performed Ballo Per Sei at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City for American Ballet Theatre's opening night gala in May of 2010. In 2010, Boren performed with American Ballet Theatre in the premiere of Alexei Ratmansky's The Nutcracker.
In 2011, Boren joined Staatsballett Berlin under the direction of Vladimir Malakhov. During her time in Berlin, she had the opportunity to dance a variety of roles, including the "Hungarian Princess" in Patrice Bart's Swan Lake and the "Lilac Fairy" in Märchenballett, as well as roles in Heinz Spoerli's Peer Gynt; Vladimir Malakhov's La Bayadère; Boris Eifman's Tchaikovsky; and John Cranko's Onegin and Romeo and Juliet. Boren also performed in ballets choreographed by Vladimir Malakhov, Mauro Bigonzetti, and Giorgio Madia. In October 2012, she traveled to Bangkok, Thailand with Staatsballett Berlin to perform in the 14th International Festival of Dance and Music in celebration of Her Majesty the Queen's 80th birthday.
Boren joined Boston Ballet as a Company Dancer 2013.
