Joined Boston Ballet II in 2013
Serena Sovdsnes of Cincinnati, Ohio began her ballet training with Claudia Rudolph Barrett. At age 10, she was awarded the Bronze Medal at the Youth America Grand Prix New York City Finals. In 2011, Serena won the Youth Grand Prix Award at the Youth America Grand Prix in Chicago and the Silver Medal at the World Ballet Competition in Orlando, Florida.
Sovdsnes relocated to Pompano Beach, Florida in the fall of 2011 to train with Master teacher Magaly Suarez at the Art of Classical Ballet. After winning the gold at the 2012 Youth America Grand Prix in Tampa, Sovdsnes was chosen to dance in the "Stars of Today Meet the Stars of Tomorrow" Gala at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts. While training in Florida, Sovdsnes appeared frequently as a soloist with Florida Classical Ballet. She was also featured in the "Young Medalists" Gala at the Miami International Ballet Festival in 2011 and 2012, and in Youth America Grand Prix's "Ballet's Greatest Hits" Gala in 2013.
Sovdsnes attended summer intensives at American Ballet Theater and Chautauqua on full scholarship. She was also awarded scholarships to train year round at the Princess Grace Academy in Monaco and the Munich Ballet Academy in Munich, Germany. She joined Boston Ballet II in 2013.
