Description
The mission of Boston Ballet's Department of Education and Community Initiatives (ECI) is to connect our community to dance in a way that makes ballet relevant. ECI's vision is to cultivate and educate a new generation of life-long arts advocates and participants through our commitment to education, collaboration, inclusion and innovation. The department's primary goals are to serve as a laboratory for the development of best practices in arts education, to implement innovative community building efforts and cultivate creative, dynamic young leaders who apply the principles and discipline of dance beyond the studio and stage environments. Its existing secondary school programs, Taking Steps and Boys in Motion, provide Boston Public School students in grades 6-8 with dance training and performance opportunities. Participants experience a wide variety of dance forms as they explore their creativity and develop leadership skills and confidence.

Responsibilities
- Support the curriculum for the program so that it meets the goals of the program, the mission of Boston Ballet's education and community initiatives and the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum
- Work with the lead teacher to develop lesson plans that are in line with the theme and objectives of the program
- Work with team members, teaching assistants, and accompanists
- Communicate with the Program Manager to discuss student progress and make recommendations for the continuation of their dance education
- Attend all Boston Ballet Staff and Faculty meetings and teacher training seminars as scheduled
- Perform other related duties as requested

Qualifications
- 1+ years of teaching experience in dance or equivalent education experience
- Ability to develop and execute lesson plans based on astructured curriculum
- Knowledge of safe and effective studio practices
- Experience teaching dance in public school settings
- Prior experience working with youth and adolescents from a variety of backgrounds
- A sensitive and caring attitude toward culturally and sociallydiverse populations
- Ability to accommodate mixed skill levels within a given cohort
- Enthusiasm for working with adolescents and a commitment to students' growth and development through the arts
- Exemplary behavior management strategies
- Male candidates preferred
