Description
The mission of Boston Ballet's Department of Education and Community Initiatives (ECI) is to connect our community to dance in a way that makes ballet relevant. ECI's vision is to cultivate and educate a new generation of life-long arts advocates and participants through our commitment to education,collaboration, inclusion and innovation. The department's primary goals are to serve as a laboratory for the development of best practices in arts education, to implement innovative community building efforts and cultivate creative, dynamic young leaders who apply the principles and discipline of dance beyond the studio and stage environments. Its existing secondary school programs,Taking Steps and Boys in Motion, provide Boston Public School students in grades 6-8 with dance training and performance opportunities. Participants experience a wide variety of dance forms as they explore their creativity and develop leadership skills and confidence.

Responsibilities
- Support the curriculum for the program so that it meets program goals, the mission of Boston Ballet’s education and community initiatives and the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum
- Review lesson plans and prepare teaching materials
- Work with team members
- Demonstrate activities, track attendance, and assist with classroom management
- Communicate with Program Manager to discuss student progress
- Attend all Boston Ballet Staff and Faculty meetings and teacher training seminars as scheduled
- Perform other related duties as requested

Qualifications
- Teaching experience in dance or equivalent education experience preferred
- Knowledge of safe and effective studio practices or willingness to learn
- Experience working in public school settings preferred
- A sensitive and caring attitude toward culturally and socially diverse populations
- Enthusiasm for working with adolescents and a commitment to students' growth and development through the arts
- Confidence and interest in working with urban youth
- College students preferred
