Serenade is the first work George Balanchine choreographed in the United States in 1934. The hauntingly beautiful Serenade is one of Balanchine’s most widely danced and beloved works. Serenade is an ensemble piece performed to Tchaikovsky’s Serenade in C for Strings, with the last two movements of the score played in reverse order. It is performed in long, flowing blue tulle skirts designed by Karinska.
