Mimi Ferrell trained with Marie Bollinger Vogt in Ohio, with summer study at The School of American Ballet. She danced principal, soloist, and corps roles with companies in Ohio, California, and Boston. She completed her teacher training in London and passed her exams in history, anatomy, and the teaching of ballet, earning her a teaching diploma with the Royal Academy of Dance. She has successfully entered hundreds of students in exams from pre-primary through advanced. Several of her students have qualified for and competed in international competitions in London as a result of high marks in intermediate and advanced exams, with one student earning first place. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Ferrell was owner and director of Ballet Arts Boxford for 21 years. Her students have joined companies such as Boston Ballet, Ballet West, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet, Jose Limon, Eliot Feld, Twyla Tharp, Baryshnikov’s White Oak Project, and Suzanne Farrell. She was on the faculty of Phillips Academy in Andover as director of ballet, and on the teaching staff at St. Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire. She was school principal of Jose Mateo’s Ballet Theatre for two years before joining Boston Ballet’s faculty in 2005.
