Located at our company headquarters in downtown Boston, SDP-Boston is led by an experienced faculty committed to excellence in classical ballet training. Students will learn and work on ballets that reflect the diversity and range required by major American ballet companies today.

Progression for Aspiring Pre-Professionals
Boston Ballet School's SDP provides students with a stepping stone to further pursue a professional ballet education. Each year SDP students are considered for Boston Ballet’s second company, BBII, as well as the School’s Trainee Program – both of which are regarded as important entry points to a professional ballet career. Alumni have gone on to join many ballet companies including Boston Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, San Francisco Ballet and New York City Ballet. Boston Ballet School will hold auditions during SDP for any students interested in entering the School for the upcoming year.

Our Boston program provides male and female students ages 15 through 19 with five weeks of intensive pre-professional training in classical ballet technique. Class size encourages personalized instruction and camaraderie.
The curriculum is based on 4-6 hours of dancing daily and includes:
- Daily technique classes
- Separate men's classes in technique, variations, and men's conditioning
- Enrichment classes in modern and classical character
- Core conditioning classes in Pilates
- Modern classes with guest artists from Summer Stages Dance.
- Master classes with guest faculty
- Interactive professional development lectures, including topics such as injury prevention, wellness and nutrition, and dance history
- On-site physical therapy, cost included in tuition
- Students will work closely with our distinguished faculty to prepare in-studio demonstrations at the end of the program

A residential program providing room, board, dorm activities, weekend excursions and daily transportation is available to all students registered for SDP. Dormitory housing is secured by proper identification, 24-hour campus security, enforced curfews and Boston Ballet School’s own professional live-in residential staff. Students are housed at Boston University, a large urban private University accessible to all of Boston. Students take the “T” (subway) and walk a short distance through the historic brownstone neighborhood of Boston’s South End to the Boston Ballet studios. A subway pass is included in the residential fees. A “buddy system” encourages safe travel to and from the studios.
Residential Staff
The student to residential staff ratio is approximately 15:1. Our residential program is designed to offer the best balance of structure and fun appropriate for an adolescent population. Residential Counselors are available to talk with students and offer friendly support while adjusting to life away from home. A consulting psychologist is available for student consult if deemed necessary by staff as part of Boston Ballet's Wellness Program. A nurse is on staff in the dorms and the studios. The Residential Life office is staffed 19 hours a day, and three rotating staff members are on-call 24 hours a day. Students carry a Boston Ballet School student ID with pertinent phone numbers at all times.
Housing & Dining
SDP residents are housed in Boston University's 575 Commonwealth Ave. There is a large lounge area within the dormitory. Monday through Friday, residential students are served breakfast and dinner in a nearby dining facility. Lunch is provided at the studio for residential students. Brunch and dinner are provided on the weekends.

Boston is a safe, vibrant, thriving city renowned for its cultural facilities, world-class educational institutions, champion sports franchises, and its place at the very forefront of American history. Students will live near the Fenway area and dance in Boston's historic South End.
Weekend Activities
In addition to dorm activities, Boston Ballet School plans optional weekend outings for all residential and commuter students. Members of the residential staff attend the activities as chaperones and all transportation is provided. Activities are optional, and spaces are limited and filled on a first come, first served basis. Students must pre-purchase tickets to these activities. Students have the opportunity to go on any or all of the exciting weekend activities.
