When can my child perform in Boston Ballet’s The Nutcracker?
All currently enrolled Boston Ballet School students in the Classical Ballet (levels Elementary through Advanced) or Pre-Professional programs are eligible to audition for The Nutcracker. Intermediate/Advanced Flex students must be enrolled in three technique classes. Trainee students are exempted from the audition process as they are required to participate in The Nutcracker as part of their core curriculum. Informational materials related to The Nutcracker will be mailed to eligible students in late August/ early September.
How do I report an absence and why is it important to notify you if my child will not be in class?
To report an absence, please leave a message on the Absence Hotline at 617.695.6950, ext: 440 (Boston); ext 441 (MetroWest); and ext. 443 (North Shore). Reported absences due to Illness, Injury, Inclement Weather, Family Emergency and Boston Ballet Rehearsal and/or Performances are considered “excused;” only “excused” absences are eligible to be made up. Regardless of the reason, notifying the school of a child’s absence is important for your child’s attendance record as well as in emergency situations. If your child is injured and will miss a prolonged series of classes, we ask that you provide us with an applicable doctor’s note.
How many classes can my child make-up?
Only “excused” absences are eligible to be made up. Elementary, Intermediate, Advanced, Pre-Professional, and Trainee level students may make up a maximum of 8 classes per year. To schedule a make-up, please call your Studio Administrator in advance of your chosen make-up day.
How do we know if the school is closed due to inclement weather?
When the weather turns bad, we assess canceling classes three times during the day: 7am, 12pm and 3pm. Subsequently, we update our Class Cancellation Line. Please call this hotline at 617.695.6950, ext. 567 to learn which classes are being held and which classes are not.
What is the difference between a make-up and the Classes Plus Program?
Any student who has reported an “excused” absence may make that class up dependent on the number of makeups allowed. The Classes Plus Program allows only Intermediate, Advanced, Pre-Profession, and Trainee level students to attend extra ballet technique classes in a lower level free of charge. Students in the Classical Ballet Program are restricted to taking extra classes within their current program and must retrieve a slip from their Studio Administrator in order to enter the extra class.
What is an enrichment class?
Enrichments are considered to be any class that falls outside of a student’s required core curriculum - students “elect” to take additional classes. Enrichment classes at Boston Ballet School are designed to enrich ballet training and help create a well-rounded and versatile student. Enrichment classes include character, modern, Pilates and professional development lectures; offerings vary by level and studio. Please visit the website for elective descriptions. Enrichments are additional classroom hours and therefore carry an additional cost.
How do I withdraw my child from Boston Ballet School?
Withdrawals are handled by the Administrative staff only – notifying your child’s Teacher or Principal is not considered a formal withdrawal. Please call the Office of Administration at 617.456.6333 to officially withdraw your child. Until the Administrative staff hears from a parent or guardian notifying us of the departure, your child is considered enrolled and your account will still be charged even if the student is not attending. When we hear from you, we will send you a Formal Withdrawal Request Form, which must be completed and signed in order to process an account adjustment. A $100.00 early withdrawal fee is assessed for students who withdraw from the Classical Ballet and Pre-Professional Programs unless the withdrawal is due to medical concerns, in which case a doctor’s note should be submitted.
Do I get a discount if I enroll two or more of my children in classes at Boston Ballet?
Yes. For the year round programs, we deduct 10% of the cost of the lesser-priced tuition. In cases, where there are three siblings enrolled, the lesser two would get the discount, and so forth. The 10% discount is not applied to registration or payment plan fees.
